Under the on-going drive to decongest Delhi and to reduce the pollution level, the Central and state governments are all set to revive the 35 km ring railway line. It may be recalled that the railway line, constructed in 1975, once used to be the lifeline of the capital, but over the last two decades, this rail network has faced neglect as the demographic makeup of the city changed drastically, which led to a huge drop in passenger traffic. The railway line, which has 21 local stations, was built between the Nizammudin and New Delhi Railway Stations, said official sources, adding that railways with the help of the state government, wants to revive the infrastructure of the ring railway. Railways will ascertain the scope of work that has to be done to revive the system for which it will constitute a study to see how much the system can contribute to the national capital.
