The Chandigarh administration has finally found takers for its ambitious flyover project on the national highway as the UT engineering department received response from three firms. After selection of the bidder, the empowered committee will send the proposal to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Ministry for approval for the mega project entailing an investment of Rs.400 crore. The project involved the construction of a flyover at the Sector 29/31/Industrial Area Phase-I and Industrial Area Phase-II and the consultant will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of the project, which will be put up before the ministry for approval. In its comprehensive mobility plan submitted to the administration in 2009, RITES had mentioned that the roundabout witnesses high traffic volume of up to 1 lakh passenger car units each day causing huge hardships to the daily highway and road users.
