Sany to Introduce SPC400 – 40 T Truck Mounted Telescopic Boom Crane at Excon 2015
What is your success story behind growing sales of truck mounted mobile cranes?
We always study the market requirements of each segment very closely and then accordingly, place the products. The major successful initiative is the production of SPC 250, 25 tons truck cranes on Indian AMW chassis, at our Pune plant. The product has gained much popularity ever since its launch, resulting in the sale of 24 units in 2015, while we are targeting to take it to 50 by the year end. This has been a major feat for us as the estimated market size for the concerned class, before this, was just 20 units. Due its features like longest boom in its class, this model has been found suitable for many newer applications like maintenance shut down jobs.
Strengthening our portfolio in truck cranes, we'll also sell AMW chassis mounted, SPC 300, 30 tons truck-mounted fixed telescopic boom crane. We have already booked an order to supply a unit to a Harbour projects. Another major achievement is of sell STC 800, 80 tons truck crane, for which, we have sold around six units to the upcoming Reliance refinery project in the last six months. This crane is getting widely accepted for captive usage, however, hiring companies are also going after, for it being capable of versatile applications. STC 800 is much suitable for windmill projects as support crane.
Are you working on any other project in truck cranes category for the Indian market?
Moving forward, we are in the process of developing 40 ton SPC 450 truck cranes on AMW chassis. The 40.5 meters, telescopic boom crane, which will be imported from China, will find its applications in the onshore oilfields shut down jobs, steel yards, infrastructure projects etc. We are already in talks with a prospective buyer in the onshore oilfield industry for selling ten units. The crane is likely to be officially launched in Excon 2015.
We are also working on a special STC 600S, 60 tons truck crane which is being designed specifically for the Indian market. We will share the details of the cranes in due course.
What is the USP of your locally manufactured truck cranes based on AMW chassis, and where are these cranes currently deployed?
The USP of SPC 250, SPC 300, and SPC 400 truck mounted cranes are their rugged Indian AMW ‘CC' chassis and power take off Indian Cummins engines for the ease of services' support. As far as application areas are concerned, our SPC 250 cranes have been deployed at Steel Authority of India's steel yard in Durgapur (West Bengal), Okhla (Delhi), Ghaziabad and Jaipur (Rajasthan), through a rental company. We have also supplied nine units to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation projects and 4 units Cairn India projects for handling onshore oil rigs thru their contractors. Couple of units has been supplied to Delhi-based civil contractor and crane rental agency, S. B. Protech.
What would be the strategy to promote all terrain cranes?
Sany posses the complete range of all terrain cranes of 180-1200 tons. The products are being accepted by rental agencies in India. We have recently delivered three, 220 tons units to various reputed rental companies like Sri dinesh, Dwarkesh, Western India.
What is the strategy to arrange financial availability for the products?
With rental rates continue to remain under pressure coupled with extended payment schedules for the hirers, getting finance for the new cranes is a major issue. However, we are aggressive towards arranging finance for the new cranes. For this, we are trying to convince financiers about the projects' financial viability wherein the new cranes will be deployed. In this connection, we facilitate an interaction of the potential financiers with the project developers at their office. The financiers were also taken to the sites. Based on the interactions, financiers like Tata Capital, Sundaram, Indus Ind Bank and others have shown their interest in providing finance for our cranes.
Getting skilled operators remains a grey area in India. How are you leveraging your initiatives for the same along with parts backup support?
We have started multiple channels of training for our customers both in rental segment and end users. Training is being imparted to the operators of the crane owners at the sites and as well as our new state-of-the-art training centre in Pune, based on simulation. To ensure appropriate maintenance and parts support, we have trained engineers from our Indian facility, beside China. To ensure timely parts support, we have sizeable stock at our mother warehouse in Pune. To support job sites having larger fleet of cranes, we put our own dedicated depot. One such full-fledged dedicated depot is at Reliance's facility at Jamnagar to provide maintenance and parts support to our more than 150 cranes deployed at the site.
