TELCON Launches Transit Mixer
Telcon, the manufacturer of the most visible brand of TATA-HITACHI excavators, has made a serious entry into the concrete equipment industry by launching the 6 cum Transit Mixer, first in the range of concrete equipment to be introduced in next few years.
Telcon has been a leader in construction equipment industry with its wide range of product lines viz. Excavators, Backhoe Loaders, Wheel loaders, Motors Graders, Compactors etc serving the customers in construction industry over past 4 decades. It is Telcon's vision to provide a full line of solutions to its customers. Extending the product line to concrete equipment is a natural extension to complement Telcon's existing range and cementing its long term relationship with existing clientele. Further, this product line has a direct synergy with the Medium and heavy commercial vehicle range of Tata Motors, which is one of the parent companies of Telcon holding 40% stake.
In March 2008, Telcon acquired a 79% stake in the leading Spanish manufacturer of Transit Mixers and Bulkers, SERVIPLEM, S A. SERVIPLEM is based in the Spanish city of Zaragosa. It has a range of Truck Mixers from 3-12 m3 and Transit Mixers on Semi-Trailers from 7 to 15 m3 sold under the BARYVAL Brand. Having served the Spanish market for 40 years SERVIPLEM has a leading edge in the design and innovative use of special wear resistant metallurgy in the Transit Mixer drums. Telcon makes Bulkers of 32 and 38 m3 capacity which are used for bulk transportation of cement and flyash.
Telcon has taken the SERVIPLEM technology and experience and brought it to its mother plant at Jamshedpur where investment has been made in setting up a dedicated line to manufacture the Transit Mixers as per the European quality and performance standards. Telcon's new facility for Transit Mixers is strategically located next to the country's medium and heavy vehicle manufacturing hub, i.e. the Tata Motors plant at Jamshedpur.
Telcon Transit Mixer TM06 stands out vis-à-vis other options in terms of a very special metallurgy of the drum which is designed for high degrees of wear resistance due to special alloying elements which make it 30-40% more wear resistant than the commonly used grade of steel for making Transit Mixer drums in India. The drum being the most critical wear component in the construction of a Transit Mixer, higher wear resistance implies lesser drum repairs and ultimately, longer drum life. Construction of the drum is supported by an equally sturdy frame and a scientific spring loaded arrangement of mounting. Special attention has been given to ensure compliance to the Indian roadworthiness and safety norms. All these features put together finally boil down to a better return on investment for the users.
Telcon Transit Mixers are sold and serviced through its wide distribution network which has over 230 touch points across the country; one of the best in construction equipment industry in India. Developing further on its proximity and synergy with Tata Motors, Telcon Transit Mixers are factory fitted on Tata Motors Chassis and are available as "Fully Built Vehicles" through the Tata Motors dealers network. Dual distribution gives the customers the options to choose what is best suited for their needs.
On the strength of relationship with key customers, the technical merit of the product and the assurance of Telcon support network, the TM06, the first model of Transit Mixer launched by Telcon recently has found patronage with key construction companies and Ready-mix concrete companies from all over India. This has helped in scaling up the numbers every month.
Inspired by the confidence shown by the customers, Telcon plans to increase its production next year and introduce other sizes and variants of the Transit Mixers according to the evolution of customer requirements and suitable chassis design as per regulatory requirements.
The Transit Mixer product line is the firm foundation in Telcon's quest to be a preferred concrete equipment supplier for project construction and ready-mix concrete companies in India. Telcon intends to achieve this though differentiated products backed up with differentiated services which benefit the customer over the long term. Telcon is actively on the look out to expand the product range beyond Transit Mixers and to have a "full line" in the concrete equipment domain soon.
