Metso Technology's Crusher

Unity Infraprojects wide spectrum of businesses covers more or less all the spheres of construction industry–from roads to skyscrapers, from bridges to tunnels, from buildings to mass housing projects, and from Railway platforms to Airports. Its uniqueness lies in the ability to put the power of people behind its every venture. At Metso, with over 2 years of association with Unity Infraprojects, the journey had one thing in common. It's the DNA of believing in the force that is "people", who make all the difference in any business.

Currently operating in 14 states of India, Unity Infraprojects started its business with a small project of construction of Abhyudaya Co-operative Bank Building at Vashi, Navi Mumbai in 1983. With over a quarter century of excellence in diverse areas of construction, Unity Infraprojects is today one of the largest civil contractors in India. They have successfully completed some of the most challenging infrastructure projects in the country.

Metso Technology's Crusher
On asking about the rationale of this diverse business strategy, Mr. Avarsekar says "We strictly follow one principle of not letting the credentials go once they are established. We believe that we have developed a reputation of undertaking challenging construction projects since we have entered the industry. We have treated every project with utmost importance and established credentials in almost every sector we have worked in. This is how Unity has reached to this position but now if we zero in on one particular segment of construction, we'll have to sacrifice our hard earned credentials in the industry. At the same time our selection of projects is based on being competitive not that we want to go all out and grab every opportunity that comes our way. Be versatile but stay focused is our mantra. Our wide range of experience in the infrastructure segment has given us an ability to focus on those types of infrastructure projects that are within our core competence. With that mission we'll continue to focus on performance and project execution in order to seek to maximize customer satisfaction."

Technology meets competence

So when it came to select the best of technology for its road projects, Unity zeroed in on the best available machines backed by the most competent team of professionals at Metso. Unity's ongoing projects in Haryana for widening of State Highway laid the foundation of this association between Metso and Unity. This project is divided in two packages for widening a total of 210 KM road stretch of Haryana State Highway. Unity is required to crush approximately 16 Lac tones of quality aggregate for this project. Demand of quality aggregates and crucial deadlines of the project couldn't let Unity to trust any local technology available.
Metso Technology's Crusher
After analyzing the project requirement, Metso proposed its NW Series, 200 TPH portable crushing plant with a combination of Jaw Crusher C106, Cone Crusher GP11F and Barmac B7150. Says Mr. RSN Murthy, General Manager (P&M), Unity Infraprojects "Though it was Unity's first experience with Metso, but our people have an excellent past working experience with Metso for some other projects. Metso track record and expertise in the crushing field gave us enough reasons to trust Metso. We wanted a partner who can reliably supply products and services to us and Metso met our expectations fully, hence we gave the order of 3 portable plants to Metso in one go."

With a total working area of 280 x 300 meters these three plants are currently working in 1 shift of 10 hours a day without any downtime. The plant is dedicated to produce quality aggregate of 0-10mm, 0-20 mm, 0-40 mm and sand. The highest achieved capacity of our plant is 3380 tons a day and 60,000 tons a month. Says Mr. Murthy "I know that this plant's capacity is to produce more than this but due to some quarry restrictions in that area currently our production time is restricted to only 1 shift. With the same capacity of Metso crusher, I have already experienced the production of 5100 tons quality aggregate in a day for a different project in past."

High on performance

On asking about the quality of aggregate Mr. Murthy expressed, "The quality of the product is beyond our expectations. Even HSRDC has never seen such an excellent quality of aggregate used in a State Highway projects." Adds Mr Murthy "Today all the companies claim about the name plate capacity of the plant and delivers much lesser but Metso's plants are able to produce more than their name plate capacity. If the process & backend quarry operations are in control, I am confident that we can achieve more than the name plate capacity. And that is what makes Metso unique."

Metso Technology's Crusher

Says Mr. Murthy "We are using two plants of 200 TPH capacity in State highway project of Haryana and one plant of the same capacity is being used in another project for widening of Pink city expressway (NH-8) of 37.5 Km. Total aggregate requirement of Pink City Project is 18 lac tones which needs to be crushed in 24 months. With the current results I feel we'll be able to achieve that before time." On being asked about the installed plant's performance Mr. Murthy said "We are satisfied with the performance of the plant. The whole plant is automated that makes it easier and quicker for new operators. The service support of Metso is outstanding; and the troubleshooting if any is tackled in hours. The operators are able to take instructions on phone sometimes and handle issues conveniently. We are highly satisfied with Metso and look forward for even more stronger and healthy relation in future."
