Nitin Gadkari Expresses Concerns Over Highway Project Planning DPRs

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari raised concerns about the subpar quality of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for highway construction, stating that no significant progress has been made in the last decade. Addressing an event, Gadkari criticized the lack of good work in DPR preparation and expressed worries about the consultants' performance.

He specifically highlighted the responsibility of some National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officers for the financial difficulties faced by various infrastructure companies. Gadkari emphasized the regrettable situation where full payments are not made to DPR consultants by the government.

Gadkari stated that the current focus in the ministry is on floating tenders for highway construction without adequate emphasis on quality. He pointed out that every highway project has identified black spots, indicating areas of concern. Urging NHAI to hire competent professionals for DPR preparation, Gadkari highlighted the need for a concerted effort to ensure the quality of highway construction projects.
