NHAI Starts Land Acquisition for Rs 40,000-Crore Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated land acquisition across Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming 742-km Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway. The Rs 40,000-crore greenfield project will seamlessly link the state's western and eastern borders, running from the Haryana border near Shamli to Kushinagar near the Bihar border.

Aligned strategically near the Indo-Nepal international border, the high-speed corridor will cut travel time between the Delhi-NCR region and Nepal to just eight hours. The massive project is being managed in two segments: a 348-km western stretch and a 394-km eastern stretch.

While the expressway will initially open with four lanes, all major bridges and overpasses are being pre-built to six-lane standards to accommodate future expansion. Ground construction is slated to intensify during the 2026–27 fiscal year, with full completion targeted for 2030.
