MoRTH bats for PPP model for quality road construction

MoRTH
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has asked National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other agencies engaged in the work of highways building to undertake more projects using Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. In PPP projects, the contractors either recover their investments through toll collection or receive payments from highway agencies. This makes the private players more accountable for their quality of construction. The quality of road construction is not satisfactory in contracts executed on the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model by all highway agencies. But the quality of work is better in the case of BOT (Build, Operate and Transfer) and Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) projects.
