Cabinet Extends PMGSY-III Till March 2028 with Revised Outlay of Rs 83,977 Crore

The scheme focuses on upgrading key rural road networks, including through routes and major links connecting villages to agricultural markets, higher secondary schools and hospitals. The extension will allow completion of ongoing road and bridge works, with timelines extended to March 2028 for most projects and March 2029 for bridges in hilly areas.
The Cabinet has also approved the sanction and execution of pending long-span bridges and allowed previously approved but unawarded projects to be taken forward for tendering and implementation.
The extended scheme is expected to boost rural connectivity, improve access to markets, education and healthcare, and support economic growth in rural areas by reducing travel time and logistics costs.
The initiative will also generate employment through construction activities and promote rural development, contributing to inclusive growth and strengthening the country’s infrastructure network.
