Indian Railways Merges Pratapgarh–Kanpur and Chitrakutdham Karwi–Kanpur Express, Doubles Capacity to 24 Coaches
The merged train will operate with 24 coaches, doubling the existing 12-coach composition. The increased capacity will provide more seats and help ease overcrowding on the Kanpur–Pratapgarh section while benefiting passengers travelling between Kanpur, Banda, Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh and intermediate stations.
The new service will also provide direct rail connectivity between Chitrakoot and the Lucknow–Pratapgarh region, eliminating the need for passengers to change trains at Kanpur Central. The improved connectivity is expected to benefit pilgrims, tourists, students, commuters and business travellers.
The train will continue to serve key stations, including Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh, Chilbila, Maa Chandrika Devi Dham Antu, Amethi, Gauriganj, Kashimpur, Jais, Fursatganj, Rae Bareli, Harchandpur, Bachhrawan, Nigohan, Lucknow, Manak Nagar, Unnao, Kanpur Central, Bhimsen, Kathara Road, Patara, Ghatampur, Hamirpur Road, Yamuna South Bank, Bharwa Sumerpur, Ragaul, Banda, Atarra and Chitrakutdham Karwi.
The merger will strengthen rail connectivity between Bundelkhand and Awadh, improve access to important religious and cultural destinations, and support travel for education, healthcare, employment and business. It will also ensure more efficient utilisation of railway resources while significantly enhancing passenger capacity on this corridor.
