Indian Railways has approved the doubling of the 44.40-km Mansi-Saharsa section of East Central Railway at a cost of Rs. 499 crore to enhance line capacity and improve passenger and freight operations in Bihar.

The Mansi-Saharsa section, part of the Mansi-Saraigarh route, is currently a single-line corridor carrying heavy passenger and freight traffic. The route handles 24 pairs of passenger trains in each direction and transports key commodities including wheat, maize, cement, fertilisers, rice, sugar, salt, sand and stone.

With line capacity utilisation already at 108.11% and projected to reach 119.34% by 2028-29, the doubling project will significantly improve operational efficiency, reduce congestion and support growing traffic demand.

The project forms part of Indian Railways' ongoing capacity augmentation programme aimed at strengthening rail connectivity, improving punctuality and facilitating faster movement of passengers and freight across the region.
