Indian Railways Approves Rs 432 Crore Electronic Interlocking Upgrade for Asansol Division

Rail-Projects
Indian Railways has approved a Rs. 432 crore signalling upgrade project to replace relay-based interlocking systems with Electronic Interlocking (EI) at 27 stations and cabins, including one Intermediate Block Signalling (IBS) location, in the Asansol Division of Eastern Railway.

The project involves replacing 28 relay-based interlocking installations—27 Panel Interlocking (PI)/Route Relay Interlocking (RRI) systems and one IBS installation—with advanced Electronic Interlocking technology to improve safety, reliability and operational efficiency.

The upgrade is part of Indian Railways' ongoing modernisation programme for High Density Network (HDN) and Highly Utilised Network (HUN) routes, where advanced technologies such as Kavach, Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) and Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) are being deployed.

The Electronic Interlocking system will enhance signalling reliability, support higher train throughput and strengthen safety across one of the busiest rail corridors in the country.
