The project will be developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, with a concession period of 30 years.
The project has an estimated cost of Rs 2,276.06 crore, comprising an investment of more than Rs 1,552.57 crore by Essar Ports and Rs 723.49 crore by DPA. The company emerged as the highest bidder in a global competitive bidding process for the terminal.
The proposed terminal is expected to expand cargo-handling infrastructure at Kandla, one of India's key ports on the western coast. The additional capacity is intended to support growing maritime trade, ease congestion at existing dry-cargo berths and improve port operations.
The project will strengthen Kandla's capacity to handle multipurpose cargo and support the development of India's port infrastructure.
