Va Tech Wabag wins $100-mn contract in Dubai

Water treatment solutions provider, Va Tech Wabag, has bagged a USD 100 million contract from Green EPC for a desalination project in Dubai. The contract pertains to be EPC model in relation to the 120 million gallons per day Hassyan seawater reverse osmosis project in the United Arab Emirates and is secured from Green EPC, an Utico FZC subsidiary, a prime EPC contractor for this project. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority have selected Utico FZC as the preferred bidder to build the plant and operate it over a period of 35 years, under the independent water producer (IWP) model, wherein the authority will off-take 100 percent of water from this plant.

CEO Middle East and Africa Cluster, Deep Raj Saxena, informed that this is a significant break-through for Wabag in the UAE enabling it to showcase its technical capabilities and innovative solutions to ensure timely completion of this prestigious, challenging, and fast track desalination project of national importance with team Utico and Green EPC. With this first order in UAE, it has further consolidated its presence in the Middle East region in line with its long-term vision. The desalination plant is planned to be commissioned in phases by March 2024 and shall be the largest IWP in Dubai. The project is in the direction of Dubai's Clean Energy Strategy 2050 initiative to maximize the use of green energy for the production of desalinated water and aims at using solar power to supplement the power requirement of the plant during day time.
