PMC clears ₹1,100-cr multimodal transit hub in Balewadi

PMC
The Pune Municipal Corporation has approved the construction of a multimodal transit hub project in Balewadi where the civic body will integrate various transport services under one roof. The facility will primarily have a bus terminus for MSRTC, a PMPML depot, space for parking of private buses and Metro-related services of Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar route. The project will be implemented through the public-private partnership (PPP) model on the 10 acres of land earmarked at an investment of ₹1,100 crore.

The project will come up along the Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass and will make the access to Mumbai and Satara-Kolhapur easier. The MSRTC will be able to operate the buses on both routes without hurdles and a plot has been set aside to accommodate Metro services. Direct access to the IT hub and the city’s other areas is possible once the multimodal hub gets fully functional. The facility will also have provisions for commercial and economic activities. The transit-oriented development (ToD) will strengthen the commercial viability and it will also generate revenue for the civic body.
