PM Modi Inaugurates Development Projects Worth Rs 6,350 Cr in Varanasi
Two Amrit Bharat trains, from Kashi to Pune and Ayodhya to Mumbai, were flagged off, improving connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and offering modern travel options to pilgrims heading to Ayodhya Dham and Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
A signature bridge over the Ganga was announced to strengthen Purvanchal's connectivity, while a 500-bed multi-super speciality hospital and a 100-bed critical care block were also unveiled, reinforcing Kashi's growing role as a major health hub for North and Eastern India.
Modi reaffirmed the government's commitment to women's reservation, stating that the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, passed in 2023 after remaining stalled for 40 years, must be implemented at the earliest. He also expressed disappointment that a constitutional amendment to increase women's representation in state assemblies and Parliament could not be passed.
On women's economic empowerment, Modi noted that nearly 10 crore women have been linked to Self-Help Groups over the past 11 years, with 3 crore becoming Lakhpati Didis. Lakhs of sisters associated with Banas Dairy received Rs 106 crore directly as bonus. Other initiatives highlighted included Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Mudra Yojana, Matru Vandana Yojana, and PM Awas Yojana, under which crores of women now hold property in their names for the first time.
Additional projects inaugurated include development of Sant Kabir Sthali, restoration of Sant Ravidas Park in Nagwa, farmers' storage facilities in Harhua and Bhawanipur, old age homes, women's hostels, and continued Ganga cleaning and ghat development.
