Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal has sanctioned more than 42,000 houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0 in Madhya Pradesh, providing a major boost to the Centre's Housing for All initiative.

The approvals were announced during a programme held at Sanwer in Indore district on June 20 in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and senior state government officials.

Under PMAY-U 2.0, sanction letters were issued to over 42,000 eligible beneficiaries, with the government providing a subsidy support of approximately Rs 1,050 crore. In addition, around 38,000 families performed Grih Pravesh ceremonies for their newly constructed pucca houses across various districts of the state.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Manohar Lal said that every new home represents dignity, security and hope for families, reaffirming the government's commitment to achieving the vision of Housing for All under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Madhya Pradesh continues to be among the leading states in the implementation of PMAY-U. Under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0, more than 10.39 lakh houses have been sanctioned, of which over 9.08 lakh houses have already been completed.

The latest sanctions and house completions are expected to benefit more than 80,000 families, providing them with permanent housing and improved access to essential services and livelihood opportunities.

PMAY-U also promotes women's empowerment by mandating ownership of houses in the name of a woman family member or through joint ownership.

Under PMAY-U 2.0, the Government aims to support an additional one crore EWS, LIG and MIG families across urban India through financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh for constructing, purchasing or renting a pucca house.
