The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has floated a tender for the construction of ₹1,200 crore Kharicut canal redevelopment projects, which would jointly be executed by the AMC and the state irrigation department. The two agencies will contribute 50% towards the realization of the project and the civic agency will be deriving its funds from the World Bank as a soft loan for upgrading the drainage systems of the city. The plan involves covering the 22-km canal with continuous precast parapet boxes, upgrading 40 bridges, and identifying areas where 40 small green patches and fountains can be created. As of now, the AMC has brought out tenders for concrete precast boxes for covering the canal and separate precast boxes for storm water and water lines running alongside. The project that will run the length of the canal between Naroda crematorium and Vinzol will prove beneficial to societies in areas such as Naroda, Nobelnagar, Odhav, Nikol, Krishnanagar, Thakkarbapanagar, Viratnagar, Arbudanagar, and Indrapuri as societies along the canal have long been inundated during monsoons.
