What distinguishes Topcon’s machine control system from competitors in terms of technology and innovation?
Topcon systems is a combination of survey technology and machines. Our core strength lies in their precise positioning. By integrating technology with machines, the system can determine the machine’s exact location and how it aligns with the desired grade level. For example, once the machine knows its position, it can automatically calculate the required slope for finishing. When combined with hydraulic control systems, the operator only needs to manage the machine minimally while the system does the levelling automatically.
This is particularly helpful for operators and contractors during the final grading process, which is critical for moving to the next phase. Though achieving accuracy with lesser experienced operators can be challenging, our system supports even amateur operators to deliver precise results.
TOPCON systems support almost all types of construction machinery, making them versatile and adaptable to various industries. For machine control, TOPCON utilizes laser and GNSS-based systems that integrate advanced sensors to ensure precise positioning and grading. Our technology adapts laser and optical instruments specifically for machine applications to enhance accuracy and performance.

How do TOPCON systems help improve on-site safety and reduce human error?
Traditionally, construction sites require surveyors and assistants to manually check progress levels. With our systems, fewer personnel are needed on-site as the technology automates progress checks and finishing level verification. This reduces the risk of human error and improves overall safety by minimizing the presence of workers in potentially hazardous areas.
How do TOPCON systems address fuel consumption and resolution of any issues onsite?
Topcon systems optimize operations, reducing the need for multiple passes during grading or paving. For example, tasks that typically require two or three passes can now be completed in one, improving efficiency and reducing fuel consumption. This also minimizes material waste and contributes to lower emissions, benefiting both contractors and the environment.
We use advanced technologies such as the SiteLink3D system, which allows remote access to the operator's screen from the office. This enables quick identification and resolution of on-site issues and we also take feedback from operators to improve our support services.

Are there plans to enhance the automation features of your systems or expand into new machine categories?
Machines need more than just positioning data—they require predictive capabilities. While current systems provide accurate positioning, further development is needed to support human decision-making. We are actively working on advancing these technologies to contribute to the future of autonomous construction, and are continuously working to enhance automation features. Our focus is on expanding compatibility with a broader range of machines to cater to diverse construction needs.
What kind of demand do you see for your products in India?
India is undergoing significant infrastructure development with large-scale projects connecting different regions. Given the tight timelines for these projects, our systems are well-suited to help contractors meet deadlines efficiently and effectively. While India is making progress, there is still a gap between government announcements and on-ground implementation. Many processes are still manual, and we aim to support the industry’s transition to automation, which will enhance efficiency and productivity.
For example, there is a need for technology adoption at the maintenance stage of infrastructure projects. We believe that integrating advanced systems during maintenance can significantly improve road services and infrastructure quality.
TOPCON solutions offer long-term value by improving productivity and reducing operational costs. Our systems also contribute to environmental sustainability by minimizing fuel consumption and emissions.
