Manitowoc's Grove Speeds up Road Construction for Dilip Buildcon Limited
One of the largest construction companies in India, Dilip Buildcon Limited, is using two Manitowoc's Grove GMK5170 all-terrain cranes for a pair of large road construction projects in Gujarat, India. The first road stretches 120 km (74.5 mi) between Nadiad and Modafa. The second project is a four-lane road spanning 118 km (73.3 mi) from Ahmedabad to Godhra. Each crane is lifting concrete girders that weigh 120 t (132 USt) each.Devender Jain, director of DBL, explains that Manitowoc impressed the company with its excellent quality.
"This is the first time we are using a Manitowoc crane, and we could not be happier with its performance," Jain said. "The crane's strong capacity and long reach are perfect for our needs. Also, the response from the Manitowoc Crane Care team is outstanding — fast, helpful and reliable."
The Grove GMK5170 is more than able to perform the 120 t (132 USt) lifts for DBL's road construction projects. The crane boasts a 170 t (225 USt) capacity and a six-section 64 m (210 ft) TWIN-LOCK main boom. When using the optional jib, the maximum tip height reaches 100 m (331 ft).
Puneet Gujra, DBL general manager, points to the Grove GMK5170's excellent controls and performance as indicators of the Manitowoc brand's quality.
"We have been using the Grove GMK5170 crane since 2012, and are impressed with its performance," Gujra said. "This is a rugged, state-of-the-art machine, and we have not faced any technical hitches since operating the crane. As a result of our satisfying experience, we plan to purchase a higher-capacity Manitowoc crane in the future."
With a fully automatic Allison transmission and MEGATRAK independent suspension system, the Grove GMK5170 performs optimally on projects both on and off-road. The crane is easy to use and has been designed keeping operator's comfort in mind. The crane offers a Full Vision, tilt cab with armrest-integrated instrumentation and crane operating controls.
General manager of structures at DBL, Atul Joshi, highlighted the Grove GMK5170's role in speeding up projects due to its superior quality and controls.
"We are on the verge of completing these two large road construction projects thanks to these high-tech cranes," Joshi said.
