Kennametal India's Tungsten Carbide Hard Metal High Strength Tools

Kennametal is keen to leverage its expertise in hard metal tooling to position itself more strongly in the Indian market for construction and mining industry. Informs Rohit Reddy, Deputy General Manager – Earth Cutting Tooling Business, at Kennametal India Ltd., “Tungsten Carbide is often referred to as a “hard metal” due to its superior hardness as compared to other metals. Cemented carbide is a composite of tungsten carbide (WC) and a metallic binder such as Cobalt (Co), Nickel (Ni) or Iron (Fe). It offers a combination of wear resistance and toughness, which is better than what can be obtained from other cutting tool materials and thus, widely used for a range of cutting applications and wear protection in mining and construction.

To increase its presence in India, Kennametal is targeting the construction segment. “With an emphasis given by the Indian government on developing the road infrastructure sector in a sustainable manner, there is a growing demand for road milling and soil stabilization machines. Kennametal launched the Next Gen Road KingTM conical tools in India during the Bauma ConExpo India 2023 show. This latest innovation will deliver new levels of performance and productivity to road milling customers. While Kennametal has a strong presence in mining, we also see a growing demand from construction industry in India,” says Reddy.
