For Gmmco and Caterpillar, December 6, 2011 was a red-letter day, when the world's largest and India's first 500HP Caterpillar Motor Grader 24M was handed over to South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL).
Mr. H. Jayaram, ED & CEO, Gmmco, and Mr. P.K. Roy Chowdhury, Director Technical (O), SECL at their Gevra and Dipka Mines, inaugurated the three machines in the presence of Mr. Anuj Keoliya, COO, Coal SBU, Gmmco, and Mr. M.K. Mishra, Dy GM (MBG), Gmmco.
The introduction of these motor graders at SECL upgrades them from the earlier 16 Ton Class to the new and much higher 60 Ton class. These machines have also changed haul road preparation and maintenance procedures altogether by eliminating the dozer from the haul road maintenance fleet without disturbing mine traffic speed.
The three high-performance motor graders will improve the tire life of the other Cat 793D trucks and other hauling equipments and will increase component life in the haulers by reducing the jerk and twist developed by bad haul road surface. In short, these 500HP motor graders are all set to create new benchmarks in haul road preparation and maintenance, and major mining companies will now adopt them in the years to come.
