Today, the National Capital Region (NCR), consisting of Delhi and the adjoining satellite cities of NOIDA, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Bahadurgarh etc, has emerged as one of the largest urban conglomerates in the world.
In the last couple of decades, this region has seen tremendous economic development which has led to unprecedented urbanization and population growth. New urban settlements are springing up almost every day as the ever increasing population is looking for new areas for residential as well as commercial settlements.
In such a scenario, the issue of connectivity between these regions has become very important. Seamless connectivity between all the regions of the NCR is the main catalyst which can ensure rapid development of the region because unless a location is adequately connected, it cannot become a residential or commercial hub.
In this direction, the expansion of the Delhi Metro to these satellite cities has been a major boon for the residents as well as professionals residing or working in these satellite cities. The Metro link to NOIDA opened in 2009 and the connection to Gurgaon inaugurated a year later have completely changed the way people commute in the NCR today. Many people travel from NOIDA to their workplaces in Gurgaon and vice versa everyday, which was unimaginable even a few years back.
