Replacement of Steel Reinforcement with Synthetic Fibre for Concrete Pavement & Floor

Manoj Didwania, Adani Total Gas Ltd, Dharamsinh Desai University (DDU-Nadiad), Cept University, presents a paper on the use of Macro Synthetic Reinforcement Fibre (MSRF) as full or partial replacement of Steel Reinforcement for Concrete Pavement and Floor, the advantages and disadvantages, and its applicability in various concrete structures.

With the price of construction materials increasing day by day, there is a need to look for alternative and more economical materials that can partially or fully replace the high-priced construction materials. Here we explore the alternative material of Steel reinforcement by Synthetic reinforcement fibre (MSRF) and its applicability at various concrete structure. Various types of fibres that have been tried in concrete include acrylic, aramid, carbon, nylon, polyester, polyethylene, and polypropylene. Typically, they are categorized as Micro and Macro Synthetic Fibre Reinforced Concrete. Macro Synthetic Fibre is gaining increasing interest among the concrete community for the reduced construction time and labour costs, when applied at various levels of construction.
