CAG report reveals irregularities in awarding Bharatmala projects
The latest report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has opened the lid on irregularities in awarding of the flagship Bharatmala highway projects in which the implementing agencies were found to have violated tendering processes, including selecting bidders based on falsified documents or without fulfilling tender conditions. Furthermore, the projects were awarded without approved detailed project reports (DPRs) or faulty reports. The report, titled “Implementation of Phase-I of Bharatmala Pariyojna,” highlighted that implementing agencies such as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) were awarding projects without ensuring the availability of required land and forest clearance and this has resulted in delays in the commencement and completion of projects.
