PM Modi Inaugurates 75 Redeveloped Railway Stations Under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
The latest inauguration follows the dedication of 103 redeveloped Amrit Bharat stations across 18 states and Union Territories on May 22, 2025, further accelerating Indian Railways' nationwide station modernisation programme.
The newly redeveloped stations have been transformed into modern, passenger-centric transit hubs with upgraded amenities, enhanced accessibility and architecture inspired by local heritage while incorporating future-ready infrastructure. The facilities include improved station buildings, wider foot overbridges, air concourses, better circulating areas and parking facilities, Divyang-friendly access through ramps, tactile pathways and lifts, modern passenger information systems, executive lounges and sustainable design features.
Among the states, Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of redeveloped stations inaugurated in this phase with 13 stations, followed by Rajasthan with eight, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh with seven each, Kerala with six, Gujarat, Karnataka and Punjab with four each, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu with three each, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and West Bengal with two each, while Assam, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana and Uttarakhand have one station each.
Several of the redeveloped stations showcase regional architectural styles and cultural heritage. These include Badami station in Karnataka, inspired by the Badami Cave Temples; Sanchi station in Madhya Pradesh, reflecting the UNESCO World Heritage Buddhist site; Jaisalmer station in Rajasthan, modelled on the city's iconic Golden Fort; Porbandar station in Gujarat, celebrating Mahatma Gandhi's legacy; and Vindhyachal station in Uttar Pradesh, serving pilgrims visiting the Vindhyavasini Temple.
Launched by the Ministry of Railways in December 2022, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a long-term, phased programme aimed at transforming railway stations into integrated urban mobility hubs rather than undertaking standalone renovations.
With the latest additions, redevelopment work has been completed at 261 railway stations under the scheme. Indian Railways plans to redevelop 1,340 stations across the country in phases, making it one of the world's largest railway station modernisation programmes.
