Railways Flags Off First Direct Ramnagar-Dehradun Express to Boost Uttarakhand Connectivity
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami joined the inauguration via video conferencing. The new express service will operate twice a week, every Wednesday and Friday. Train No. 15310 will depart Ramnagar at 5:50 am and reach Dehradun at 12:40 pm, while the return service, Train No. 15309, will leave Dehradun at 3:55 pm and arrive in Ramnagar at 11:30 pm.
The train will halt at Kashipur, Roshanpur, Pipalsana, Moradabad, Najibabad and Haridwar, and will offer multiple travel classes, including AC Second Class, AC Third Class, AC Chair Car, Sleeper Class, Second Sitting and General Second Class.
The service is expected to benefit passengers from Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Dehradun districts in Uttarakhand, as well as Moradabad and Bijnor districts in Uttar Pradesh. It will improve same-day connectivity for students, traders, farmers and other commuters travelling for business, education and official work.
The train is also expected to boost tourism and pilgrimage by improving access to destinations such as Jim Corbett National Park, the Girija Devi Temple near Ramnagar and the Sitamadhi/Sitavani religious sites. It will also provide convenient onward connectivity to the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit through Haridwar and Dehradun.
Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw said the new service would strengthen rail connectivity between Kumaon and Garhwal. He also announced that Rishikesh railway station will be developed as a feeder station to reduce congestion at Haridwar, with a master plan being prepared to create additional capacity and improve passenger movement.
The Railway Minister said redevelopment work is progressing at 11 stations across Uttarakhand under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including Dehradun, Haridwar Junction, Harrawala, Kashipur Junction, Kichha, Kotdwar, Roorkee, Kathgodam, Lal Kuan Junction, Ramnagar and Tanakpur.
Chief Minister Dhami said the Ramnagar-Dehradun Express marks another significant milestone in improving rail connectivity in the state. He noted that the Centre has allocated a record railway budget of ₹4,769 crore for Uttarakhand, while railway projects worth over ₹40,000 crore are currently under implementation. He added that work on the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway line is progressing rapidly and will play a vital role in the state's social, economic and tourism development.
