The railway and state government shares will be approximately Rs 83.28 crore each.
The proposed ROB will replace the functional limitations of the existing Alkapuri Road Under Bridge (RUB) near Vadodara Railway Station, which provides east-west connectivity between the Alkapuri and Kalaghoda areas. The existing RUB has a vertical clearance of around 3 metres, restricting the movement of larger vehicles and experiencing waterlogging during the monsoon.
The limitations have contributed to traffic congestion and difficulties for road users. Traffic assessment for the area indicates peak-hour traffic of more than 1,600 passenger car units (PCU) per hour, along with multiple traffic conflict points and inadequate pedestrian facilities.
The four-lane grade-separated facility will improve the road crossing arrangement and provide connectivity to Vadodara Railway Station, the GSRTC Bus Station and the upcoming High-Speed Rail station.
The ROB will provide an alternative crossing facility while allowing railway operations to continue. The project is expected to address the capacity constraints of the existing RUB and strengthen road connectivity around Vadodara Railway Station.
