Mumbai Port Authority Undertakes Rs. 1,285 Crore Infrastructure Projects, Expands Green Port Initiatives
During 2025-26, MbPA launched major projects including the Rs. 192 crore Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) on a DBFOT (PPP) basis, Rs. 303 crore modernisation of the existing MICT at Indira Dock, Rs. 80.4 crore shore protection works at Jawahar Dweep, and the Rs. 470 crore Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina project.
In 2024-25, the port undertook the Rs. 161 crore Third Chemical Berth at Pir Pau, a Rs. 25.84 crore SCADA and PLC automation system for the Marine Oil Terminal, and Rs. 52.69 crore augmentation of firefighting facilities at Pir Pau Terminal.
Mumbai Port Authority is also implementing several green port initiatives. The port currently operates 1.4 MW of rooftop solar capacity, while an additional 3 MW rooftop solar project is under implementation. Around 57% of the port's electricity requirement is now met through renewable energy.
To reduce emissions, MbPA has piloted biofuel blending with BPCL, is inducting green tugs under the Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP), and is developing an LNG import and handling facility at Jawahar Dweep. Other sustainability measures include bamboo plantation drives, development of a Mangrove Park at Sewri, and the conversion of LPG connections to PNG across port residential and common-user facilities.
