Cabinet approves construction of 6 lane cable-stayed bridge in Bihar
The key objective of this project is to improve traffic flow, enhance connectivity, and contribute to the overall development of North Bihar. The bridge is expected to remove economic constraints by facilitating the transport of goods and commodities. Its strategic location is anticipated to unleash the economic potential of the region and promote socio-economic growth. Various activities during the construction and maintenance phases of the project are expected to generate direct employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers.
The total cost of the project, which is ₹3,064.45 crore, encompasses a civil construction cost of ₹2,233.81 crore. The construction will be carried out using the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode, with a focus on incorporating the latest technology. The project is targeted to be completed in 42 months from the appointed date, and the implementation strategy includes the use of advanced technologies such as 5D-Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the Bridge Health Monitoring System (BHMS).
The bridge will connect two districts, Patna on the south bank and Saran on the north bank, spanning across the River Ganga in Bihar. The strategic positioning of the bridge is expected to provide direct connectivity from Patna to the Golden Quadrilateral corridor via NH-139 at Aurangabad and Sonepur (NH-31). This improved connectivity is likely to benefit Northern and Southern parts of Bihar through the state capital.
