Crane Components Manufacturers Carry Critical Advancements

Technically sound components are necessary for developing high performing machines. Component manufacturers must work closely with OEMs and vice versa to ensure optimum integration of features and solutions for the benefit of the machine owners and end-users. NBM&CW takes a look at the advanced solutions.

Intellegence in Aerial working machinery is a matter of further power, performance and agility, allowing the operator to work more efficiently.

Hardik Rathod, Manager - Development and OEM Sales
According to Hardik Rathod, Manager - Development and OEM Sales, “MOBA provides LMI support and customized solutions for Aerial plaforms, Access platforms, Articulated access platforms, Knuckle Boom Crane, Telehandlers, Telescopic cranes, Airport equipments and Fire fighting platforms. Our solutions offer Moment Limiting and Geometrical limiting both types of LMI depending on requirement. Basically it ensure safe operation inside defined enveolpe by limiting slewing movements based on load in cage and pressures of boom cylinders.

Platform leveling is very important in safety which is either integrated or independent solution. Truck leveling is automatic with manual override. These solutions are formed using our platform products (Controllers, Sensors, HMIs). Along with LMI, full machine control functions, engine management, etc can be integrated into the same system. Our platform products makes it easy and quick (less time) even to customise any LMI system according to specific requirements. MOBA has specially developed a Loadcell (MRW) for Cage weighing. Designed such to easily adapt for a cage design for fitement.”

MOBA

He adds, “we have wide experience on working on various types and makes of sophisticated machine hydraulics control which makes us unique in electronic integrated solution supply. Our team have strong application knowledge.

Our LMI solutions comply to all the required safety standards like EN, which is mandatory in Europe. Lot of well known aerial platform OEMs in Europe use our solutions as a standard fitment to their equipments.”

Harpreet Singh Wahan, Head Marketing, Murphy by Enovation Controls - India
Equipment integration between the components for intelligent control with a proper machine-human interface is another area of focus by the manufacturers. Says Harpreet Singh Wahan, Head Marketing, Murphy by Enovation Controls - India, “OEMs are adding new operational features such as stability controls, safety controls for cranes in rugged environments. We are also working closely with them in developing solutions for human interface at the operator level for higher productivity.”

“Our sensors can fully integrate with the advanced electronic engines and display real time data on the performance parameters of the engines. They can also fully integrate with the hydraulic systems and provide real time monitoring and control for all critical activities. Digital but Intelligent controls integration can provide very reliable Diagnostic capability to the machine for Engine, Hydraulics, Transmission and other vehicle parameters. These act as a safety net the machine operates in. With advanced sensing and telemetry this can form a great asset to the machine, the operator and the owner of the machine - delivering great safety, efficiency and productivity”

Wahan informs that what gives them a competitive advantage is that their Integrated solutions and Displays can perform at work sites under the most rugged of environments. - Temperature range, Water Ingress, Shock, Vibration and Electrical surges all being Sunlight readable. “Our Displays are programmable in about 12 global languages and we can adapt it to any Indian language for the OEM"

Murphy

Product support and continuous training is rendered by Murphy directly to the OEMs they work with, facilitating integration of the controls by its service engineers. The company has set up a new state of the art Manufacturing facility in India contributing to the Make in India initiative. This will expand capabilities to Design and R&D moving into 2021.

Since components are subjected to dynamic factors during the working of the cranes, crane component manufacturers must meet the performance criteria set by the crane OEMs. On their part, the OEMs and end-users must coordinate and give feedback on the performance of their machines to the component manufacturers to incorporate the desired changes or upgradations.
