The Government of India has launched several projects with ambitious targets to develop infrastructure in India. Key among them is the approval of the $100 billion (₹7 trillion) road construction plan to develop 83,000 km highways by 2022, including the $80 billion (₹5.35 trillion) Bharatmala project. Fuelled with this renewed emphasis, construction of national highways hit an all-time high of about 10,000 km (which translates to 28 km a day) in the financial year ending March 2018.

The Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA) expects the construction equipment industry to reach US$5 billion by 2020, with sales of Excavators growing about 20% according to Off-Highway Research.
