One of the most prestigious condominium developments in India is progressing well thanks to tower cranes from Potain. The Magnolias is under- construction in the exclusive city of Gurgaon, one of the hottest real estate markets in India, close to National Capital Delhi.
All the five upcoming blocks will have 19 towers forming a high–end residential complex with views over the new golf course (which is also under construction). Main contractor DLF Laing O'Rourke purchased six cranes for the project–two MC 205 B cranes and four MC 115 B cranes. All the cranes were manufactured at the Manitowoc factory in Pune.
Reliability
Graham Lloyd, Equipment Manager at DLF Laing O'Rourke, says the company needed a brand it could trust.
"We purchased all six of these cranes new from the Manitowoc factory in Pune, specifically for this project," he says. "We have good experience of the Potain brand and a number of other Potain cranes in our fleet. They are easy to use and perform well plus we get great back-up from the company. This is a high profile project in an important area so we need to make sure everything is perfect. Our Potain cranes help us achieve that."

Material Handlers
The cranes are working with jibs of between 50 m and 60 m (164 ft and 197 ft) and handling steel rebar, concrete buckets and formwork, with the heaviest loads around 5t (5.5 USt). All are being climbed throughout the project and at completion the tallest will reach heights of around 110 m (361 ft).

The new development was commissioned by leading Indian real estate developer DLF, which formed a joint venture with contracting giant Laing O'Rourke for the construction. The development will complete at the end of 2009.
