ITA Selects 11 Clean Industrial Projects in India Worth USD 18 Billion Led by Jindal Steel, JSW Steel and ReNew

The selected projects, led by companies including Jindal Steel Limited, JSW Steel, ACME Group, Yamna, Circular Urban Energy (CUE) and ReNew, represent a more than USD 18 billion in potential investment and could deliver over 7.8 million tonnes of annual carbon abatement across multiple sectors.
Together, the projects will produce essential clean materials for buildings and infrastructure, such as steel and concrete; low-emission fuels for aviation and shipping; and chemicals such as ammonia, a critical component for agricultural fertilisers. Clean chemicals dominate the portfolio with more than 70% of the pipeline in green ammonia and green methanol, reflecting India’s renewable advantage and ambitions for a Viksit Bharat (“Developed India”).This portfolio reflects India’s growing pipeline of commercial-scale projects designed to accelerate the transition to low-emission industrial production and drive broader, economy-wide impact.
Selected for their alignment with ITA’s mission to decarbonise heavy industry and long-distance transport, the projects represent commercial scale deployment of green industrial technologies in India.
Jindal Steel Limited is developing a carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) project at its integrated steel plant in Angul, Odisha. Captured carbon will be utilised in products such as methanol, ethanol, polycarbonates and mineralised materials, creating a scalable model for low-carbon steel production. With an operational carbon capture capacity of 1.0-1.2 Mtpa from direct reduced iron (DRI) off-gases, it is among the world’s largest CCUS installations in an integrated steel plant.
JSW Steel, in collaboration with Carbon Clean and BHP, is jointly evaluating the feasibility of deploying Carbon Clean’s CycloneCC modular technology to capture up to 100,000 tonnes per year of CO2 emissions at JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar site, Karnataka.
ACME Group is developing green chemicals projects at Gopalpur and Paradip in Odisha. The projects include 400 KTA and 800 KTA green ammonia facilities respectively, alongside a 200 KTA green methanol plant at Paradip. The Paradip facilities are targeted for completion by 2029, while the Gopalpur project is expected to be completed by 2030.
ReNew, India’s leading renewable energy company, is advancing a green ammonia project at Paradip, Odisha, with an initial Phase-1 capacity of 300 Ktpa. By 2029, the project is expected to achieve Commercial Operation Date (COD), positioning it as a cornerstone of India’s emerging clean fuels export ecosystem.
Yamna is developing a large-scale green ammonia project in Andhra Pradesh, near Krishnapatnam Port, with a planned capacity of up to 1 Mtpa, including 500 Ktpa in Phase 1. Powered by round-the-clock renewable grid electricity, the project seeks supply cost-competitive green ammonia and hydrogen to sectors such as fertilisers, steel, refining and shipping, serving both domestic and international markets.
Circular Urban Energy (CUE) is developing a waste-to-sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project in Uttar Pradesh’s Jewar region within the Noida International Airport ecosystem. Designed to process around 3,500 tonnes of municipal and residual waste per day, the facility will produce approximately 1,000 barrels of SAF per day through an advanced thermochemical process. The project will divert waste from landfills while supplying low-carbon aviation fuel, creating a scalable model that links urban waste management with aviation decarbonisation and supports India’s emergence as a producer of sustainable fuels.
Under its project support programme, ITA works with governments, project developers, financial institutions, value-chain players, and civil society to help clean industrial projects to reach financial investment decisions (FID). Across in-country programmes in Brazil, UAE, India and Egypt, ITA is currently supporting 39 projects with USD 60-65 bn in investment potential. Selected projects receive tailored support to address critical barriers to FID, including through the development, implementation, and scaling of policy, market, and financial interventions that can also benefit the wider sector.

India is emerging as a major hub for clean industrial development. Analysis from ITA’s India Insights Briefing, published in November 2025 alongside the launch of its India Programme, identified more than 65 commercial scale clean industrial projects across the chemicals, steel, cement, aviation, and aluminium sectors. This pipeline positions India among the most significant emerging markets for low-emission industrial production. It reinforces India’s leading role in the global industrial movement focused on clean development and as a member of the “new industrial sunbelt,” a bloc of countries with plentiful renewable energy resources and favourable conditions for clean industry.
Of the 65 projects:
59 are awaiting investment;
53 are deep decarbonisation projects;
12 include lower-emissions projects with the potential to make a material impact to reducing industrial emissions;
Two have reached final investment decision; and
Four partially renewable-powered brownfield aluminum smelters are currently in operation.
