REC commits Rs 3,045-cr funding in BMRCL's Phase-II project

the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL)
REC, the government-controlled Power Sector Financing and Development entity, has pledged a financial assistance of Rs 3,045 crore to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) for the construction and development of metro lines under Phase-II of the Bangalore Metro project. The decision to extend the financial support was made during REC's Board meeting held in Bengaluru.

The Phase-II project of BMRCL involves the extension of two existing corridors (East-West Corridor and North-South Corridor) and the addition of two new metro lines—one from R V Road to Bommasandra and another from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara. These new metro lines will pass through densely populated and heavily congested areas of Bengaluru. The Phase-II project aims to expand the Namma Metro's rapid transit system, covering a total length of 72.09 km. Upon completion, the combined network of Namma Metro will span 114.39 km and include 101 stations.
