Indian Railways Approves Rs 175 Crore Locomotive Maintenance Facility at Raipur

Rail-Projects
Indian Railways has approved a Rs. 175 crore project to create additional homing facilities for 250 three-phase electric locomotives at the High Horse Power (HHP) Diesel Shed in Raipur under South East Central Railway (SECR).

The project aims to strengthen locomotive maintenance infrastructure in line with the rapid expansion of Indian Railways' electric locomotive fleet and the growing demand from freight and passenger operations.

Homing refers to assigning a locomotive to a designated maintenance shed responsible for its scheduled servicing, safety inspections, repairs and overall upkeep to ensure safe and efficient operations.

The additional facilities at the Raipur depot will enhance maintenance capacity, improve utilisation of existing infrastructure and create space for future technological upgrades, supporting Indian Railways' ongoing electrification and network modernisation programme.
