IGBC Presents Green Building Certification Plaque to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation for Five Stations on Line 3
The UGC Package No. 3 was executed by Dogussoma, with GreenTree serving as the green building consultant. The certification reflects the project’s focus on integrating sustainability into large-scale urban transport infrastructure, while enhancing accessibility, resource conservation and environmental performance.
MMRC Spokesperson said, “Sustainability has been an integral part of the development of Mumbai Metro Line 3. The green certification of these five stations is a recognition of our efforts to integrate resource efficiency, environmental responsibility and sustainable practices into the project. We are committed to developing a metro network that not only enables efficient urban mobility but also contributes to a greener, more resilient and future-ready Mumbai.”
MMRCL’s Line 3, covering the Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ corridor, comprises a total of 27 stations, including 26 underground stations and one at-grade station. With the certification of these five stations, IGBC has certified 16 MMRCL stations so far in 2026, underlining the organization’s continued efforts to advance green infrastructure across Mumbai’s expanding metro network.
A key feature of the certified stations is their integration with Mumbai’s wider public transportation network. All stations are accessible from bus stops within 100 metres and have dedicated drop-off zones, support convenient last-mile connectivity and encourage public transport use. BEST (Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking) operates CNG buses. At the same time, electric buses have also been introduced on regular and feeder routes associated with Mumbai Metro Line 3, further strengthening low-carbon mobility.
The project also demonstrates significant economic and financial value, recording an Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) of 17.89% and a Financial Internal Rate of Return (FIRR) of 3.2%. These outcomes highlight the wider economic and social value of investing in sustainable mass rapid transit infrastructure.

The plaque presentation was attended by senior officials from MMRCL, including Sh. Oswin D’Mello, DGM/Operations; Sh. Sandeep Gupta, Jr. Supervisor/Operations; Sh. Swapnil Waradkar, Jr. Supervisor/Operations; Sh. Saifuddin Khan, Supervisor/Operations; Mahesh Dange, Senior Deputy General Manager; Pratik Kolge, Deputy Engineer; Mahesh Bhosale, Deputy Engineer; and Pawan Upadhyay, Manager, Operations Team.
Representing Dogussoma were Gopala Krishna, Project Manager, and Murali Krishna, MEP Manager, while GreenTree served as the green building consultant for the package. From IGBC, Chitranjan Kaushik, Chairman, IGBC Mumbai Chapter; Raja Reddy, Associate Counsellor; and Vikram Singha, Associate Counsellor, were present at the plaque presentation.
The recognition reinforces the role of green building principles in shaping the next generation of urban mobility infrastructure. With Mumbai Metro Line 3 connecting key business, residential, and institutional districts across the city, integrating sustainability measures at the station level can improve resource efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and foster a more sustainable public transport ecosystem for Mumbai.
