The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved two railway capacity expansion projects worth approximately Rs. 3,907 crore to enhance freight and passenger movement in Odisha and Jharkhand.

The approved projects include the doubling of the Paradeep-Haridaspur railway line in Odisha and the construction of a fourth rail line between Rajkharsawan and Dangoaposi in Jharkhand.

The projects, planned under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, aim to increase line capacity, improve operational efficiency, ease congestion and strengthen multimodal connectivity through integrated infrastructure planning.

Together, the two projects will add about 145 km to the Indian Railways network and improve connectivity across four districts in Odisha and Jharkhand. They are expected to benefit around 1,526 villages with a combined population of nearly 14 lakh people.

The Ministry of Railways said the capacity augmentation will enable more efficient movement of passengers and freight while supporting regional economic development, employment generation and logistics efficiency in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
