BMC Proposes Rs 702 Crore Underground Link Connecting Metro Line 3 to Mumbai Coastal Road Promenade

Bangalore-Metro
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed a Rs 702.44 crore underground pedestrian vestibule to connect the Mahalaxmi Racecourse-Science Centre Metro Station on Mumbai Metro Line 3 with the Coastal Road's Worli promenade.

The proposed 3.5-4 km underground corridor aims to provide Metro commuters and pedestrians with a safe, seamless and weather-protected connection to the seafront.

The project will be implemented by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) under the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) provisions of the Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR) 2034.

Under the proposal, the BMC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MMRCL and release project funds in phases. The civic body has also sought relaxation of standard public tender norms under Section 92 of the amended Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888, following directions from the Urban Development Department.
