MMRDA targets ₹5.01 lakh-cr infra investment in MMR region

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has targeted to invest ₹5.01 lakh crore in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on the infrastructure and transport network in next 20 years. A final report on a Comprehensive Transport Study (CTS-2) will guide civic and state bodies to plan infrastructure development. The study has recommended 487 km of Metro lines, 232 km of suburban network, 533 km of exclusive bus lanes, and an additional road network of 1,264 km in MMR by 2041. The study outlines transportation strategies and guidance needed to attain the vision under long-term (2041), medium-term (2031) and short-term (2026) scenarios. It underscores the significance of transport to support the economic growth and social well-being in MMR. MMR is spread across 6,355 sq km of area. It includes Mumbai and partial districts of Thane, Palghar and Raigadh having a population of 2.5 crore. The final report on ―CTS-2 for Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) was recently released by the state CM. The guidelines will guide all Municipal Corporations, Councils, CIDCO, MRVC, JNPT and MBPT, among others, for the next 20 years on infrastructure development, institutional growth and resource mobilization.
