The Municipal Corporation in Coimbatore has decided to set up a construction and demolition waste processing plant at Vellalore. Commissioner, MCC, M Prathap informed that the collection points will be set up in each of the five zones, from where the waste will be shifted to the processing centre. As of now the civic body is studying the products that can be manufactured using the waste, including paver blocks. The project will be executed using the solid waste management (SWM) fund provided to the corporation every year and has already allotted funds for this year.

Out of the already cleared ₹70 crore, proposals have been made for around ₹30 crore as a ramp will also be constructed at the garbage transfer unit on Sathy Road near Gandhipuram at a cost of ₹1 crore. The old ramp was damaged during the construction of Gandhipuram flyover a few years ago. Garbage collected in pick-up vehicles will be transferred to trucks to further transport it to the upcoming process plant.
