Centre to Invest ₹1,010 Cr for Brahmaputra & Barak Rivers Development

The Central government has announced an investment of ₹1,010 crore for developing Assam's Brahmaputra and Barak rivers, including a ₹96.60 crore slipway project in Majuli under the Sagarmala scheme.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, informed Parliament about the funding approved by the Ministry, with in-principle clearance from the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance. Key initiatives include 12 floating terminals, multimodal terminals at Pandu and Jogighopa, and permanent terminals at Bogibeel and Dhubri.
The comprehensive development of National Waterway 2 (NW2) has a sanctioned cost of ₹474 crore and is nearly 80% complete. Other projects include an approach road linking Pandu Port to NH-27 and a Ship Repair Facility at Pandu, with ₹388 crore allocated and over 60% progress achieved. These projects aim to enhance connectivity and boost inland water transport in the region.
