Maharashtra UDD approves underground stretch of Metro Line 5

The Urban Development Department (UDD)
The Urban Development Department (UDD) of the Maharashtra state government has given its clearance for the construction of a 3km underground section as part of Phase-II of the Mumbai Metro Line 5. This upcoming phase aims to connect Thane to Kalyan via Bhiwandi, covering a total distance of 24.5 kilometers.

Initially, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), responsible for infrastructure development in the metropolitan city, had put the underground stretch between Dhamankar Naka and Temghar on hold. However, the UDD has now granted approval to the proposal with certain conditions. These conditions include ensuring that there is no additional financial burden on the state government, submission of a detailed project report for the underground portion, and obtaining approval from the administration.

The inclusion of the underground section in Phase-II of Mumbai Metro Line 5 is expected to enhance connectivity and improve public transportation in the region. This decision marks a significant step forward in the expansion and development of the metro network in Mumbai.
