Afcons Infrastructure Limited has emerged as the lowest bidder for construction of a 10.14 km-long breakwater at the upcoming Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra, with a bid of Rs 5,301.25 crore.

The breakwater, considered the longest for an Indian port project, is a key component of the Rs 76,220 crore Vadhvan Port development being implemented by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and the Maharashtra Maritime Board through a special purpose vehicle.

The project involves offshore protection infrastructure for the new deep-draft port being developed near Dahanu in Palghar district. Once completed, Vadhvan Port is expected to become India’s largest public port with a cargo handling capacity of 298 million tonnes annually, including 23.2 million TEUs.
