Tamil Nadu Govt Signs Rs 18,600 Cr MoU with L&T for Data Centre, Electronics and Shipbuilding Projects

The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister V. Joseph Vijay, who held discussions with L&T Chairman and Managing Director S.N. Subrahmanyan at the Secretariat. The projects span the data centre, electronics manufacturing and shipbuilding sectors.
The largest investment is a Data Centre Expansion Project in Kancheepuram district, with an outlay of Rs 15,000 crore. The project is expected to create employment opportunities for around 500 people and strengthen Tamil Nadu’s digital infrastructure ecosystem.
L&T will also establish an Electronics and Electronic Systems Manufacturing facility in Coimbatore with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore. The project is expected to generate around 2,000 jobs and support the growth of the state’s electronics manufacturing sector.
In addition, the company will expand its shipbuilding facility at Kattupalli in Tiruvallur district with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore. The expansion is expected to create approximately 5,700 employment opportunities and support the development of infrastructure for the offshore wind energy sector.
The projects are expected to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s diversified industrial base, enhance advanced manufacturing capabilities and contribute to the state's long-term economic growth objectives. According to the state government, the investments align with its vision of transforming Tamil Nadu into a US$1.5 trillion economy by 2036.
