Contractors in Gujarat seek revised construction rates
In the wake of increased construction costs, the Gujarat Contractors Association (GCA) has moved a representation seeking that the government pay revised construction charges. GCA members have cited that the increase in prices of steel, cement, tar, sand, gravel and bricks in addition to costlier transportation and increased labour wages have led to an increase of at least 30% in the cost of construction. In a meeting in Ahmedabad, over 200 construction contractors discussed the rising input cost and came to a consensus that it is no longer viable to do business at the rate decided at the time of submitting the tender for the government's construction contracts. A representation has been handed over to the state government seeking revised charges and that they should be paid in accordance with market rates instead of pre-determined charges.
