GMR Airports plans to invest up to Rs 19,400 crore ($2 billion) over the next five to seven years to expand and modernise its airport facilities in New Delhi and Hyderabad, as the company prepares for rising passenger demand in India's aviation market.

The company plans to invest around Rs 13,800 crore in Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad and up to Rs 5,600 crore at Delhi airport.

Once the expansion is completed, Hyderabad airport will be capable of handling around 80 million passengers annually, more than double its current capacity of about 34 million passengers.

The investment comes amid strong growth expectations for India's aviation sector. Government estimates indicate that India's passenger traffic could increase nearly six-fold to around 1.1 billion passengers over the next 14 years, while the country's commercial aircraft fleet could grow to more than 2,350 aircraft by 2040.

GMR Airports operates six airports in India, one in the Philippines and another airport under construction in Greece. The company is also evaluating investment plans for Nagpur airport, which it took over in June 2026.
