Govt of India & ADB Sign $181M Loan for Ahmedabad Livability Project

Mukherjee emphasized the project's goal to enhance peri-urban areas with robust infrastructure, a vibrant economy, and improved urban services. Vasudevan highlighted the project's aim to manage urban sprawl by expanding quality urban services and transport connectivity for the city's migrant population.
The project will benefit urban poor, women, and migrant workers by improving urban services and governance. It will include construction of water distribution networks, stormwater drainage, sewerage systems, sewage treatment plants, and improvements to junctions along the Sardar Patel Ring Road.
ADB will support capacity building in technology-based urban planning, climate change resilience, and disaster management. The project aims to promote environmental and social safeguards, gender equality, and social inclusion.
Capacity building initiatives will focus on financial planning, revenue enhancement, infrastructure asset operations, and community awareness programs for water conservation, health, and hygiene.
