Delhi-Meerut rapid rail gets ₹30,274-cr funding booster

The Cabinet recently approved ₹30,274 crore for the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) connecting Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut with a distance of 82.15 km and speed of 160 kmph catering to nearly 7.4 lakh daily commuters covering the distance in 55 minutes. The central assistance to this project in the form of grant and sub ordinate debt will be ₹5,634 crore.

As per the proposal, there will be 24 stations between Delhi and Meerut. Of the total length 68.03 kms will be elevated while 14.12 kms will be underground. The RRTS stations, which will accommodate 12-coach trains with superior amenities is all set to change the way India travels on rails. The Sarai Kale Khan station, the starting point of the Delhi-Meerut corridor, will be a transit hub, with an existing inter-state bus terminal, the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, and the upcoming Delhi Metro station, on the Pink Line. The trains will have the facilities of universal access with differently-able friendly as they won‘t have an issue embarking or disembarking the train.
