Collective sales of new and used AWPs and Telehandlers have grown by almost 65% this year.
2017-18 exceeded our expectations; it was a phenomenal year during which our business more than doubled. With the increase in Construction & Infrastructure activities across India, demand of Material Handling equipment has increased significantly. For Aerial Work Platforms and Telehandlers, their growth this year has gone up by almost 65% (for both new and used equipment), which is a very encouraging sign, and we expect this momentum to gather pace in the years ahead.
Rental companies in mature markets are spearheading purchase.
With awareness of Aerial Work Platforms increasing across the country, new customers in the end-user segment are procuring AWPs. Some rental companies have started procuring new machines in bulk to expand their fleet. This is a very encouraging sign, as across the world’s mature markets, it’s the rental companies that spearhead purchase of new machines. New machines give the end-users an opportunity to rent machines that are safer and more productive. The market for second-hand equipment is at the same level of growth as seen in the previous years, with a mix of used and old imported equipment that are cheaper to rent out.
Chinese government formulated stringent policies for use of AWPs and put an embargo on import of used machines.
AWPs are required to work safely and productively at heights. They are multifarious in nature and can be used across sectors. However, what’s hindering faster growth of the industry, is lack of legislation for making their use mandatory when working at heights. Uninhibited import of used machines is also a worrisome trend. Old and out-of-serviceable life machines are finding their way into the country. The government should put a cap on the age and condition of machines being used.

To give an example, China, which had a total market of 3000 new AWPs three years ago, is now poised to be the third largest market after USA and Europe by 2019, with an estimated number of around 28,000 new machines. This has been possible because the Chinese government formulated stringent policies for use of AWPs and put an embargo on import of used machines into China. These steps led to the growth of the AWP market of China.
AWP remains a product of limited volumes in India to entail local production, unless the market matures.
The quest for new machines at low cost is promulgating import of many Chinese machines of various makes. But as manufacturer of quality machines, we cannot compromise safety for cost. Regarding indigenisation, AWP remains a product of limited volumes in India to entail local production, however, as the market matures, we would give serious thought to localisation. There is healthy competition amongst us with established brands in India like JLG and Genie.
We, at Haulotte, believe in customer proximity, and the reason why we are a registered company in India. Our role is that of a solution provider to customers, either directly or along with our distributor Gemini Power Hydraulics. To spread awareness, we and/or our distributor regularly participate in exhibitions to showcase our products and their advantages of safety and productivity to a large segment of end-users in manufacturing industries, mining, warehousing, facility management, airports, ports, hotels, malls, hospitals, residential complexes, etc.
The use of AWP is not restricted to Construction and Infrastructure sector, rather used wherever people are required to work at heights. Scissor lifts and boom lifts are equally popular in the infrastructure sector.

We strive to maintain at least 95% availability of fast-moving parts at any point of time.
Any equipment or machine, irrespective of its brand, needs to undergo routine maintenance in order to perform well for years. The better we maintain, lesser are the chances of breakdowns and downtimes. For such routine activities, it is important to have prompt availability of spare parts, so, at Haulotte, we strive to maintain at least 95% availability of fast-moving parts at any point of time. As a solution provider, we aim to understand and meet our customers’ needs. This, perhaps, is the mainstay of our brand recall.
